Brand Heritage

The Roots of POVEL

The origins of POVEL are deeply rooted in German textile history. The Povel family was closely associated for decades with the Ludwig Povel textile factory, a company that was not only industrially significant but also played a defining role in the economic and social development of the city of Nordhorn.

Over generations, the Povel Works provided employment to thousands of people and left a lasting imprint on the city’s identity. To this day, numerous institutions and landmarks commemorate this era, including the Povel Tower, the Nordhorn City Museum with the Povel Archive, and the Ludwig Povel School.

Public Recognition

On 26 January 2013, the former Schulzentrum Süd was officially renamed Ludwig-Povel-Schule. The renaming honoured the historical contribution of the Povel family to the development of Nordhorn, as well as their entrepreneurial and social impact across several generations.

The Grafschafter Nachrichten reported on the ceremonial renaming and on the speech delivered by Charles Robert Povel, in which the significance of the family legacy and its responsibility for the present day were emphasised.

Povel Today

With POVEL, this legacy is continued in a contemporary form. The brand unites its textile heritage with a modern identity and stands for high-quality fashion defined by clarity of purpose and strong values.
